As you may know, mom and I are driving just
under half of Route 66 this fall. We
will be flying to St. Louis, Missouri, picking up a rental car and heading
west, ending up in Albuquerque, New Mexico 10 days later. Along the way, we plan to stop at the cheesy
roadside attractions, such as the Blue Whale in Catoosa, Oklahoma and Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas. We plan to stop at the non-cheesy roadside
attractions, like the Oklahoma
City Memorial and the Coleman Theater in Miami, Oklahoma. And,
hopefully we will learn how to correctly spell Albuquerque without the
assistance of autocorrect.
Why are we doing this? Well, because we want to. Because it’s something Mom and I have always
wanted to do. Because the attraction and
the history of Route 66 has been engrained in us by Mom’s Dad, my wonderful
Grandpa Morrison. Because Mom was born
in Miami, Oklahoma, and her family hails from the stretch of Rt. 66 from Joplin,
Missouri to Fairland, Oklahoma. Because
we don’t know when we will get the opportunity to do this again.
As word of our trip has gotten out, we have
had a lot of requests from friends and family asking us to email them with
updates. After thinking about it, we
realized we could end up spending a lot of time on emails, phone calls and
Facebook updates. In an effort to save
time and avoid spending hours on the Internet, we decided a blog would be the
best way to keep our friends and family informed. We will be updating our blog everyday, if not
more. We’ll include pictures and links
of where we’ve been and updates on where we are headed the next day.
Have you ever driven all or part of Route
66? Let us know some good places to hit
up!
We are looking forward sharing our adventures
with everyone as we travel the Mother Road!
